Gain valuable work experience, time management and organization skills, as well as decision-making and leadership skills. This internship is only available for Crete Public Library District teen residents age 16-19.
Position Description
The Crete Public Library District seeks two creative, enthusiastic, and tech-savvy Crete Public Library District teens to serve as summer interns for the Marian Engel Summer Teen Internship. The main focus of this internship is to either 1) create a program for teens (grades 6-12), or 2) create social media posts to enhance the library's social media presence to better connect with local teens.
Other duties may include: creating teen and adult summer reading prize giveaways, creating book displays, assisting with children's programming, and maintaining and organizing the library’s collections.
Who can apply?
Crete Public Library District teen residents age 16-19 who are preferably looking for a first job experience. Crete Public Library District comprises the Village of Crete and Crete Township, as well as a few other areas. Call or visit the library for more details.
What do I need to apply?
All applicants need to submit a resume and cover letter to Cassandra O'Connell-Teen Librarian. They can do so either in person at the library, via email at coconnell@cretelibrary.org, or via the Google form application link: https://forms.gle/WRVU2UzyTVqfQGnZ8. (Applicants must have Gmail account to apply online.)
When sending an application via email, please use the subject line "2024 Marian Engel Summer Teen Internship".
When is the submission deadline?
The submission deadline is Saturday, May 4, 2024.
When will interviews take place, and when will I know if I've been selected to be an intern?
Interviews will take place in May, after the submission deadline is over.
All candidates will be notified by email if they have been selected as an intern or not.
How long will the internship last?
The schedule is somewhat flexible and will be discussed during interviews.
In general, the internship is six (6) hours per week and lasts six (6) weeks.
Start date is the first week of June. End date is the week of July 8, 2024.
How much is the stipend?
Interns earn $550 for the summer, to be paid at the end of the internship.

AARP Smart Driver Course

- Refresh your driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road.
- Learn techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way, and roundabouts.
- Discover proven driving methods to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road.
Cynthia Soltes, AARP Instructor, will lead this 2-day class, specifically designed for drivers age 50 and older. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. The fee is due on the first day of class. Pay with cash or by check made out to AARP. Credit and debit cards will not be accepted. Participants must register through the Library and attend both sessions to receive a certificate of completion.
The class will continue on Friday, April 26 from 12–4 pm. You are welcome to bring snacks to eat during the break.
